Tradeskill Recipe Book Guide

Tradeskill Recipe Book Guide or Where Are My Recipes?

At some point in your Tradeskilling career, someone will ask you to make something, and when you try to do it, you may discover that you’re missing recipes. After a brief moment of panic, you start looking around. “Where are my recipes?” Two things cause confusion here: The tradeskill advancement system and the fact that some books are dropped and some are purchased. Hopefully, this guide will help you sort out where to find your books.

Essentials Books:
These books hold recipes using all commonly harvested ingredients and are purchasable from NPCs.

  • Essentials books levels 1-2 do not exist. You obtain these recipes doing the Isle of Refuge Crafting Quest or automatically when you get to your new city.
  • Essentials books 3-9 are available for purchase at your Wholesaler Society or obtained free while on the Choosing a Profession Quest.
  • Essentials books 10-49 are available for purchase at Specialty (Class) Societies.
  • Essentials books 50-59 are available in Maj’Dul at the Golden Scepter or from Court merchants with Ally faction.
  • Essentials books 60-69 are available in various Kingdom of Sky zones as follows:
  • Craftsmen: Duvawocket, Drednever Crash Site, Bonemire – take the Enchanted Lands or Feerrott spires, go to -303, 51, 584.
  • Outfitters: Penny Dreadful, Whisperwind Isle, Barren Sky – take the Thundering Steppes or Nektulos Forest spires, run downhill to the cloud pad, turn north, and you’ll find her up against the wall at -510, -68, -459.
  • Scholars: Merchant Thryst, Whisperwind Isle, Barren Sky – take the Thundering Steppes or Nektulos Forest spires, he’s at -601, -46, -434.

Advanced Books:

These books contain the recipes to refine and use Rare harvests. Advanced books drop off of mobs. They can potentially drop from any level-appropriate mob that can drop a chest, and they are not normally body loot. If you’re not an Adventurer, check your local Broker to find volumes for sale.

  • Advanced Books level 1-3 do not exist.
  • Advanced Books level 4-9 are not named “Advanced,”but are named as follows:

Artisan Refining Volume 4
Artisan Components Volumes 5 & 6
Artisan Escutcheon Volume 6
Artisan Advanced Alchemy Volume 7
Artisan Leather Armor Volume 7
Artisan Mechanists Armor Volume 7
Artisan Advanced Alchemy Volume 8
Artisan Cloth Armor Volume 8
Artisan Weapons Volume 8
Artisan Advanced Alchemy Volume 9
Artisan Arcana Scrolls Volume 9
Artisan Strategem Scrolls Volume 9

  • Advanced Books levels 10-69 are dropped loot and called “Advanced [class] Volume [level].”
  • Advanced Books levels 50-59 are also available for purchase from Court Faction merchants with Ally faction. The purchased versions are no-trade.

Imbuing and other Bloodlines Books:
These books were introduced with the Bloodlines Adventure Pack and allow crafters to add effects (Imbue) to certain Pristine Crafted Items. They are required by Alchemists to make Imbuing Extracts. There are also special spell recipes in this line for spell-making classes. Their names vary, but will involve the word “Imbuing” or “Magic.” All these books are purchasable.

  • Imbuing Books Volumes 1-9 do not exist.
  • Imbuing Volumes 10-49 are available at any Wholesaler Society.
  • Imbuing Volumes 50-59 are available in Maj’Dul at the Golden Scepter or from Court merchants with Ally faction.
  • Imbuing Volumes 60-69 are available in various Kingdom of Sky zones as follows:
  • Craftsmen: Duvawocket, Drednever Crash Site, Bonemire – take the Enchanted Lands (or Feerrott) spires, go to -303, 51, 584.

Alternate-Art (or Cross-Discipline) Books:
These books were introduced to remove Tradeskill interdependencies. With these books, crafters can make refines and components unavailable to their primary Profession, albeit at a higher fuel cost. They come in Essentials and Advanced, and there is only one volume per tier rather than one per level.

  • There are no Alternate-Arts books for Tier 1.
  • Essentials books 1 – 4 are available for purchase at Wholesaler Societies.
  • Essentials books 5 are available in Maj’Dul at the Golden Scepter or from Court merchants with Ally faction.
  • Advanced Books 1 – 5 are dropped loot, in the same manner as other Advanced Tradeskill Books.
  • Advanced Books 5 are also available in Maj’Dul from Court merchants with Ally faction.
  • There are no Tier 7 Alternate-Art Books.

Secrets Books:
These books allow crafters to make high-end Fabled gear and weapons. While there is evidence that more books were planned, so far only the Tier 5 (level 40) volumes have appeared in game. They are called “Secrets of the [Class] Volume [level]” and are rare drops off Tier 5 high-end raid mobs. The recipes all require a harvested Rare and an ultra-rare raid drop (usually from the same mobs that drop the books). These books are not purchasable from NPCs, but you might find them on the Broker.
